이 산은 적송이 대부분을 차지하고 있어서 산림욕 중 제일이라는 적송산림욕을 한껏 즐길 수 있는 건강코스이기도 하다. 5∼10년 된 적송의 사이를 따라 마곡사를 둘러싸고 있는 태화산의 능선에 개설된 등산로의 길이는 무려 5km에 달하며 약 2시간 30분이 소요된다. 마곡사 대웅전 앞 은적암 입구를 기점으로 하여 해발 423m의 활인봉, 417m의 나발봉을 따라 마곡사 경내를 기고 한 바퀴 도는 이 등산로는 경사가 완만하여 어린이와 노인 등 노약자가 등산하기에도 적당하다.
